Introduction to Euro-nymphing Fishing Skills - Thursday 5th February, 2026 This is a river-based day course, learning on-the-water, basic euro-nymphing fly fishing skills. Course Aim: The goal this day field trip is to introduce you to equipment and skills special to euro-nymphing. Czech, French, Spanish, short-line, high-sticking or contact nymphing are all commonly known terms within the umbrella of the 'Euro-style nymphing technique'. In certain types of water, this style of nymph fishing is incredibly effective. But, like so much in fly fishing, good mentoring is the smart way to become more proficient. Join the growing number of anglers employing this productive technique in their daily fishing. Learn: • Euro-nymph specific gear and rigging. • Confidence flies. • Casting technique. • Style adaptation to water type variation. • Fly / leader presentation. • Presentation angle variations. • Strike detection. • Animation / induced take techniques. Anglers are encouraged to bring their own euro-nymphing rod, reel and line if they have it, but all equipment is available to anyone who needs it. The rod has a significant influence on success. If you are serious about becoming an effective euro-nympher, you will ultimately need to purchase a specialist Euro-nymphing rod, reel and line. Limited to maximum 3 participants. Wednesday 18th March 2026 LOCATION: This course will be based on a local river in the Nelson-Marlborough region. Anglers will be responsible for providing their own lunch. TRANSPORT: Course participants will be responsible for their own transport to and from the river. Participants will be advised of the exact location to meet one week prior to the course date. PAYMENT: You will be invoiced 10 days prior to the course. Payment details will be included on the invoice.
