Trout Tactics: Murchison Field Trip

Three Days : Tuesday 10th March 2026 - Thursday 12th March 2026 ... (arrive Murchison, 5 pm Mon 9th Mar). This Murchison-based practical field trip is designed to help anglers build upon their existing fly fishing skills. It is suitable for anglers who have developed sound basic fly-casting skills and are capable of walking for 3 - 4 km each day over rocky river-beds. Anglers will explore and fish several rivers covering a range of different fishing scenarios over the ensuing three days. We will meet in Murchison on the evening of Mon 9th Mar, prior to the course starting on Tues 10th Mar. Anglers will stay in local Murchison accommodation for three nights and must supply their own bedding and fly fishing equipment. The cost of the course includes accommodation, but does not include meals. Course is limited to a maximum of 4 anglers. Course Aim: To improve anglers' fly fishing skills and techniques through personalised tuition and practical fly fishing. Outcomes: At the conclusion of three days practical fishing experience, anglers will: 1. Be able to set up suitable tackle and make effective fly selections for a variety of fishing situations. 2. Have developed a good ability to 'read water' and choose appropriate locations to fish for trout. 3. Have improved their trout spotting ability, fly casting and fly presentation skills. 4. Have (trout willing), improved their trout playing and trout handling abilities. 5. Have a better appreciation of how to improve their skills on future fishing trips. Subject Areas: - On-Stream Entomology. - Effective Rigs, Choosing the Appropriate Fly. - Practical Streamcraft, Trout Spotting. - Practical Fly Presentation, Practical Hookup and Landing Skills. - Practical Catch and Release. - Understanding the nuances between different rivers and water types. TRANSPORT: Course participants will be responsible for their own transport to and from Murchison. From Murchison, we will car-pool to the river of choice each day, using my vehicle plus assistance from course attendees if required. Participants will be advised of the exact location to meet one week prior to the course start date. PAYMENT: You will be invoiced 10 days prior to the course. Payment details will be included on the invoice. Payments can be paid directly to my bank account via online banking or by personal arrangement.
